FAQs

How do I get a library card?

All you need is a photo ID and proof of residence (like a utility bill with your name and address on it). Takes about 5 minutes and . . . voila!!

What if my books are due and I can’t get in to return them?

You can call the library anytime to renew your items.  If the items are on hold for someone else, we are not able to renew them.

Can I return books from another library to New Lisbon Library?

Yes, as long as they are from a Library in the Winding Rivers Library System.

What is the Winding Rivers Library System?

The following libraries make up the Winding Rivers Library System (WRLS):

Alma, Arcadia, Bangor, Black River Falls, Blair, Cashton, Coon Valley, DeSoto, Elroy, Ettrick, Galesville, Hillsboro, Holmen, La Crosse, Independence, Kendall, Lafarge, Mauston, Mondovi, Necedah, New Lisbon, Norwalk, Onalaska, Ontario, Osseo, Readstown, Sparta, Strum, Taylor, Trempeleau, Viroqua, West Salem, Westby, Whitehall, Wilton, and Wonewoc.

If you are looking for an item and we don’t have it at this library, we can find it for you.  The WRLS has a program called Inter-Library Loans, which allows you to order a book from any of the member libraries (if it’s available).  We’ll contact you when your item is here, and you can pick it up from and return it to this library!

Can I place holds on items from my home computer?

Absolutely! Go to our website at www.newlisbonlibrary.org, enter a title or author in the “WRLS Catalog” search field, and log in when you’re prompted.  You will need your library barcode and pin number to log in.

How long does it take to receive an item that I put on hold from another library?

It depends on how many copies of the item are in the system and how many holds have been placed on it.  Materials are delivered every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, except for holidays.  It could take as little as a day or as much as a month for items that are in demand.

What is my pin number?

Your pin is usually the last four digits of your phone number.  If those numbers do not work, contact your library and we can change it for you.

Can the library keep a history of what I’ve read in the past?

No.  The library cannot keep track of your reading history for confidentiality reasons.  By logging in to your account, however, you are able to keep track of your own past checkouts.  Click on your name in upper right corner, click on “Reading History,” and click “Save Reading History.”  Let us know if you would like help!

What else does the library offer besides books?

We have audiobooks, music CDs, DVDs, 9 public use computers, a black-and-white and color printer, copy machine, fax machine, magazines, Chromebooks, IPads, and a wonderful collection of Native American artifacts for public viewing.

For kids, we also have educational and sensory toys, foam and wooden blocks, board games, and more.  We have many children’s activities throughout the year, including story times and our fun-filled Summer Reading Program!

Can anyone use the internet at the Library?

Anyone over the age of 18 with a library card may use the internet. Children under the age of 18 must have a signed permission slip from a parent or guardian.  The same also applies with movies, IPads, and Chromebooks.
