Position: Youth Services Coordinator/Assistant Librarian

Youth Services Reports To: Library Director

 

Position Summary: The Youth Services Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and promoting programs and services for children, teens, and their caregivers. This role requires creativity, enthusiasm, and a passion for fostering literacy, learning, and community engagement. The coordinator will work closely with the library director, schools, and community organizations to ensure the library is a welcoming and resourceful space for youth.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and lead engaging programs for children and teens, including story times, literacy activities, various children’s programming, and summer reading programs.
  • Develop outreach efforts to schools, homeschool families, and community groups to promote library services and programs.
  • Create and maintain appealing library displays and promotional materials tailored to youth audiences.
  • Provide reference and reader’s advisory services to children, teens, and caregivers.
  • Collaborate with the Library Director to maintain and expand the youth collection, ensuring it reflects diverse interests and needs.
  • Stay informed about trends in youth literature, technology, and programming to enhance library offerings.
  • Assist patrons in using library resources, including computers, tablets, printing and other devices.
  • Maintain accurate program records and statistics for reporting and evaluation purposes.
  • Represent the library at community events and build partnerships with local organizations.
  • Assist patrons in locating books, research materials, and digital resources.
  • Manage circulation by checking materials in and out, processing holds and maintaining records.
  • Support collection development by cataloging new books, weeding outdated materials, and organizing shelves.
  • Provide reference services to help users with research, technology, and general inquiries.

 

Qualifications:

Experience working with children, teens, and families in a library, educational, or community setting.

Knowledge of children’s and young adult literature, as well as principles of library services for youth.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.

Proficiency in using technology.

 

Schedule and Compensation:

This is a full-time position with a fixed schedule. Schedule is M-F 9AM-6PM. Weekends will be rotated amongst the staff.

$15-$20/hour depending on experience.
